UNFORGETTABLE
I choose to celebrate you rather than mourn. Perhaps that's a better way to keep my sanity.
I am yet to come to terms with the reality of your passing. All I can say, or better put, all I can do, is to pray for your soul to have a quiet repose.
You would have meant differently to many people, but you personified goodness to me. You were kind, thoughtful, generous and humble.
Your home at Oyedele Ogunniyi, Anthony village and your office at Calcutta Crescent, Apapa were stopovers for Anam School Leavers, seeking for employment in and around Lagos. I do not intend to belabour this subject, but suffice it to say that many were blessed by your effort.
You were no less a family man. I watched you closely and knew how well you managed that front.
Uncle, you made sure nobody lacked. You ensured that the needs of the family members were dutifully met.
I will boldly say that you stood in the gap for everybody and encouraged all to live life in moderation.
Your perception of life was that of simplicity. You attached no importance to ceremonies and liked to be addressed as simply Chuks Okeke. You chose no title and played down the one your professional career conferred on you.
With your house as my home, I can claim reasonable knowledge of your disposition towards life. I learnt a great lot and had some of the best experiences I cherish to this day. I cannot recall your kindness to me here. I hope to keep them in memory.
Uncle, your death at this point in time has shattered a whole lot of plans for us in the family.
Even as my heart bleeds, I bluntly refuse to accept that you are no more.
Nna mu ukwu, your memories will forever remain in our hearts!!!!
May your wonderful soul rest in the bosom of God.
Good Night
